Gateway Pond Management

December 6, 2018

The Board of Directors is currently working with the Douglas Land Conservancy, the Douglas County Engineering Department, the Perry Park Water & Sanitation District, and the Colorado Division of Wildlife to determine a plan of action to rehabilitate Gateway Lake. This will encourage species diversification within some of the mono-stand areas of cattail plants.   The goals of such a project are to:

1. Lessen the encroachment of cattails into the water way,

2. Encourage the establishment of varied native plants,

3.  Provide a more diverse and valuable habitat for the many creatures endemic to the unique wetlands in our mesic upland environment.

This is not a one-and-done project, as efforts will need to continue through time to maintain these areas.
