Gateway Pond Management

August 30, 2018

This fall, cattail stands around portions of Gateway Pond will receive a trimming.

This will encourage species diversification within some of the mono-stand areas of cattail plants.  With pond levels down due to drought conditions, we can achieve this work at substantial time and cost savings to the Perry Park Metropolitan District.  The goal will be to lessen the encroachment of cattails into the water way, and encourage the establishment of varied native plants.  This will provide a more diverse and valuable habitat for the many creatures endemic to the unique wetlands in our mesic upland environment.  This is not a one-and-done project, as efforts will need to continue through time to maintain this wildlife conservation jewel.
