Gateway Pond Management

August 30, 2018

The Board of Directors is currently working to obtain bids to cut back some of the cattail stands around portions of Gateway Pond and Gilloon Pond.  This type of work will have to take place once we receive some cold temperatures in order to freeze the areas to be worked.

This will encourage species diversification within some of the mono-stand areas of cattail plants.   The goal will be to lessen the encroachment of cattails into the water way, and encourage the establishment of varied native plants.  This will provide a more diverse and valuable habitat for the many creatures endemic to the unique wetlands in our mesic upland environment.  This is not a one-and-done project, as efforts will need to continue through time to maintain these areas.
